nmeld

How can we help?

Frequently asked questions

Does nmeld send my files anywhere?

No. Your files stay on your Mac. nmeld reads and writes only the files you open in it, and it has no analytics or crash reporting of its own.

Is nmeld free?

Yes. This version is free, with nothing locked.

Which files can I compare?

Any two text files. nmeld colors the syntax of 17 languages, such as Swift, TypeScript, Python, Markdown and HTML, and compares everything else as plain text. For binary files, such as images, it only tells you whether they differ.

How do I copy a change from one file to the other?

Click the arrow beside the change, or press ⌥⌘→ or ⌥⌘←. Undo puts it back, and ⌘S saves the file.

Can I edit a file while I compare it?

Yes. Type in either pane and the comparison keeps up as you go.

What do I need to run nmeld?

macOS 14.6 Sonoma or later, on a Mac with Apple silicon. This version doesn't run on Intel Macs.

Which languages is nmeld available in?

The app and this site are in English and Spanish.

Is nmeld related to Meld?

No. nmeld has no affiliation of any kind with Meld, and shares no code with it. Meld inspired us, and we're very thankful for the many years we've used it in countless programming projects.
